Butterfly Life Cycle Infographic
This project is an educational infographic designed to explain the four stages of a butterfly’s metamorphosis. The goal was to simplify scientific information into a clean, accessible layout using hierarchy, structure, and visual flow.
Project Overview
I created this infographic to visually explain the butterfly life cycle in a clear, engaging way for educational use. Many existing diagrams were cluttered or overly complex, so I focused on designing a structured flow that guides the viewer through each stage with clarity and balance.
Problem Definition
The challenge was to simplify the butterfly life cycle so that students and general audiences could quickly understand metamorphosis. Most references lacked clear hierarchy, causing viewers to struggle with the order of the stages. My goal was to create a clean, step-by-step visual that made the process easy to follow.
Process & Development
I began with multiple sketches exploring linear, circular, and curved layouts. After evaluating readability, I chose a horizontal step-by-step approach. Using Adobe Illustrator, I built the graphic with vector icons, a natural color palette, and the Rule of 8s for spacing. Each stage includes a label, number, and connecting arrow to show progression.
Design Decisions
I used soft greens and yellows to reflect nature and maintain readability. Clean sans-serif typography supports an educational tone. Visual hierarchy establishes the importance of each stage, while consistent icon styling keeps the layout cohesive. Directional arrows move the viewer naturally through the four phases of metamorphosis.
Results & Reflection
The final infographic clearly communicates the butterfly life cycle and uses a structured layout to support comprehension. This project strengthened my skills in hierarchy, spatial organization, vector illustration, and educational design. It also reinforced the importance of clear visual storytelling in user-centered communication.
